Not Recommended Apr 01, 2009
By Thomas Llewellyn
"bemused metaphysician"
I bought this umbrella 22 months ago. It worked fine for about a year. Then the plastic tips that connect the fabric to the ribs would come loose. First it was just one, then two, and at the end it was four. I could reconnect them manually, but it was a minor hassle. Then a couple of days ago the umbrella wouldn't close. Kind of hard to carry an open umbrella in your backpack.
I paid thirty dollars for this umbrella. It should have lasted at least five years for that price. I will not purchase another umbrella made by this company.

Works great...when it decides to work... Mar 29, 2010
By Mohammed R. Ahmed The canopy for this umbrella is great...unfortunately, the rest of the umbrella is very cheaply made...and it drastically reduces its performance. I've had this umbrella for about two months now, and from the very beginning I have had problems with the top spring engaging. Today, it has finally stopped working...it is inconceivable that on a $30 umbrella, one of the most basic pieces, that even $3 throw away umbrellas can get right, fails to work properly...
I am very disappointed with this product.

Gustbuster Metro Black, Manual Umbrella Feb 08, 2010
By S.E. This replaces an old Totes umbrella that I loved but misplaced in a move. I had it for 25 years. I decided to go with the manual version of the Gustbuster as I figured there's less to go wrong with it. Not that I have any evidence that that would be a problem, but I plan on keeping it for a while. The Gustbuster doesn't look as well built as my Totes and the hook mechanism that locks the umbrella open (I think it's called a plastic runner) has me a bit suspicious, however it performs flawlesly in heavy use. We just had a pretty heavy storm (heavy for SoCal) come through and as I watched other peoples umbrellas fold up and come apart, the Gustbuster held up wonderfully. I did use my other hand to brace where the two poles (top pole and bottom pole) slide together when the wind got really gusty. I would like to see them come out with a folding umbrella that's a little bit larger, though, maybe just a couple inches. Overall I'm very happy with it.

Flimsy Sep 26, 2010
By Hardy This is my 4th Gustbuster Umbrella. I live in a large city where an umbrella is a must and I usually rely on this brand. However when I received my umbrella I found it to be made of cheaper materials and more flimsy than my last.

Overpriced umbrella Sep 02, 2010
By plruns4fun I bought this umbrella because I was tired of spending 15$ here and there after my umbrellas kept breaking in windy Illinois. So, I paid the extra money to purchase this one and have it shipped because of the company's claims. From day one, parts of it would not stay on and I had to keep fixing them. After about 9 months it completely broke on me. It wouldn't open because one of the opening arms completely broke off its hinge. So, I was stuck in a downpour on a trip to Philadelphia with no reliable umbrella. Needless to say, it somewhat ruined my afternoon since I had to walk around soaked. Anyway, I would highly recommend against this umbrella. It's just an overpriced cheap umbrella you can buy at any convenience store. Sure, the materials seem heftier but it doesn't matter, it still just breaks with minimal use.
