By Chickie Poo GREAT umbrella. Well built, squishy handle, really gives you confidence in the rain that you will be protected. The only drawback is part of its asset: it is huge! Really big opened up, but really long folded up. It is not something you can toss in your tote, you have to haul it over your shoulder. But small price to pay for staying dry.

"Professional" Umbrella? Jul 25, 2010
By bythecshore Update:
The umbrella has turned out to be of poor quality. And worse, the company that sold it is unresponsive. On September 26th I sent them this email, through Amazon: "I bought an umbrella from you via Amazon, Shedrain Gellas Golf Umbrella, Auto Open , order# [...], in April 2010. I keep it next to my back door and use it only to walk to a club very nearby when it's raining. I've only used it about 5 times, for a total of about 10-15 minutes, and it's now broken. At first one of the "strings" came loose, and now the slide mechanism is jammed up. Can I return the umbrella?"
Here we are a couple of weeks later and nothing from the company. Don't but this product from this company.
Original review:
I got sick of having one umbrella after another get wrecked in the wind, get blown inside out, fall apart, fabric ripping, cheap parts rusting, etc. When I thought about it, I realized I bought few of these... I got most at promotional events like golf tournaments, or when donating to charities. The ones I had bought were in emergency situations in NYC when it started pouring and I'd duck into the closest drug store for a $10 model. Which would soon fall apart.
So I decided to buy a "real" umbrella and got this one. What a difference! It's actually built like a somebody cared; it just feels like it's well made. I've only used it a couple of times, but I'm pretty confident that I'll have this for many years (or until I leave it somewhere which has also happened many times).
I recommend this - it's my first "professional" umbrella!
By the way, I think this would make nice, unusual gift for someone. I wouldn't normally think of giving an umbrella as a gift, as I have previously associated them with disposable, cheap products. But I think most people probably don't have a good umbrella, and it's one of those gifts that a person may first think, "He gave me an... umbrella?", but years later would appreciate it much more than another bottle of wine.

Love it Oct 28, 2011
By Shadowman I wanted a large 'brella to replace my old street-vendor thing that was falling apart. Obviously this is not an ultra-portable one that folds to fit in a backpack or briefcase, this is an unapologetic, industrial-sized, in-your-face, rough-and-tough mammoth umbrella and it's proud of it. Ain't no raindrops falling on you on it's watch!
Seriously, it's at least big enough to fit two adults, a baby and a four-year-old underneath, and holds up well in the wind and heavy rain. The gel handle is a nice touch, but isn't really that important to me. Seems like nice build-quality. Had it for a month now and no complaints.

Favorite Umbrella! Dec 01, 2010
By Eight4 Not once in my life did I think I would have a favorite umbrella. Though I have not tested this one in the likes of Blacksburg VA, where I ruined so many others due to strong winds, I can tell that this one will outlast the construction of so many other inferior products. I thought the gel handle would just be some sort of gimmick, but it does feel just right. The longer shaft VS a compact makes it much easier to hold over long distances too.
roughly as advertised Mar 01, 2012
By Pelle Schultz This is a very well-made and pretty umbrella. Overall build quality is excellent. It's a bit more resistant to wind than non-vented counterparts, but this capability is somewhat oversold by the manufacturer. It's less useful than implied under gusty conditions--it's not much more stable under high winds than a typical umbrella. What it really offers is 'survivability'--it doesn't turn inside out, weaken and break. The gel handle is quite comfortable. A very good but not great product.
